Day 1 London

Daniel and Brent’s Royal Adventure

You only live once!

Day 1 London

Mostly just errands today and trying to get over jet lag. Stopped at the Canadian High Commission to pick up our packages for the party. Even the envelope looks formal:

And here is the official invitation.  Pretty sure we’ll have it framed.

Understandably, a lot of you are wondering how we managed to get ourselves invited to this royal event.  It was surprisingly easy but definitely involved a bit of luck.  One of my time wasters on the weekend is a website called Reddit.  There is a sub reddit on New Zealand that I subscribe to and there was a story there on a Kiwi that got an invitation.

In the United Kingdom the government determines who is selected for the parties and these people are usually those that work in charities or did some heroic work.  The Palace retains a limited number of tickets for Commonwealth realms that have the Queen as head of state.  Those countries can allocate the tickets as they see fit and Canada does it by lottery.

We applied a year ago to the High Commission in London and were promptly rejected stating that there were far more applicants than tickets.  So it goes.

We applied again this year and got in!

If anyone is interested in the details on how to apply, please let me know by direct message.
